Wanted: People with Passion, People with Heart

Our company is young, aggressive and provides a great environment for independent thinkers and doers. We are seeking applicants for what we consider the most important position in the company… the Polymer Sort Technician.

Overview of the Polymer Sort Technicians Role at PolyClean

One of the most vital and important roles for a member of the PolyClean team is that of the Polymer Sort Technician. The Polymer Sort Technician is responsible for accurately processing thousands of pounds of plastics for our clients. The ideal polymer sort technician will be able to solve problems related to the sorting of the different plastics at different clients.

The Sort Technician is also an ambassador of good will for PolyClean. Most of our clients are repeat clients and the Sort Technician's ability to demonstrate excellent communications skills and show a mastery in his/her trade is key to the satisfaction of our clients.

Technical Aspects of the Role of a Polymer Sort Technician

PolyClean has developed a mobile polymer sorting system that optically sorts plastic resins that have some kind of visible damage. The heart of the system is a sophisticated optical sorter that “looks” at every plastic pellet that flows through the machine and then chooses a good resin from a bad based on how the machine is set up.

Using different colored lights and adjusting the sensitivity of the cameras, the Sort Technician can make some resins “disappear” (the good resins) while making the bad resins stand out. The cameras then “see” the bad resins and eliminate them from the feed stream with a blast of air.

The mobile system is completely self-contained with its own 3 phase generator, a rotary screw air compressor and a pneumatic convey system for transporting the plastic resins to and from the optical sorter. All this is housed in a 24’ foot cargo truck (think big U-haul truck) that the Polymer Sort Technicians will drive from client to client.

What’s the catch? This job seems too good to be true!

The Polymer Sort Technician has one of the most important roles in the company yet the position has some potential negatives that you should be aware of.

Since PolyClean operates as a mobile system, the Sort Technician will travel extensively. This means that if hired, you may be on the road for weeks at a time. The days can also be very long. The Sort Technician will generally work one 12 hour shift in a 24-hour period. You will be operating on 2 week “tours” with 2 weeks “vacation” in between. (2 weeks on, 2 weeks off)

We understand that many people like the traveling lifestyle. They enjoy the adventure of being on the road and being continuously exposed to new ideas and environments. If this is true for you, this may be the perfect opportunity. However, if you have concerns about traveling a lot, this is probably not the right position for you and you should carefully think through the positive and negative aspects of traveling before applying.

The Good News

One of the best aspects of filling the role of the Polymer Sort Technician is that our clients genuinely appreciate what we do for them. PolyClean solves a major problem for our clients and they are very impressed with the equipment and how neat and organized the operation is. As a Polymer Sort Technician, your role will be to maintain this positive impression by working diligently to keep the client satisfied. You will find that the clients are very friendly and interested in what we are doing. If you like being appreciated by a company and its clients, then this is your kind of place to work.

Also, the position pays well at $14 per hour (with lots of overtime!) plus a $30.00 per day pre-tax food allowance on top of travel costs (paid by the company). PolyClean has a full benefits package including health insurance, section 125 cafeteria plan, 401k retirement plan, etc. PolyClean pays every other week via direct deposit into your checking or savings account. Most of our sort technicians make over $50,000 per year in base pay, overtime and per diem.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with good logic and problem solving skills and who is passionate about life and adventure. Technical ability and good mechanical skills are also important. Because an important part of the role of this position is to interact well with clients, a professional appearance, demeanor and good communication skills are required.

Although a Commercial Drivers License is not required, you will need to pass a DOT physical which includes a drug test. Due to safety constraints at many of our client’s plants, you cannot have facial hair or smoke.

Because of our tremendous growth, we have an immediate need for several Polymer Sort Technicians. Therefore, we are looking for someone to start as soon as possible.

Rules for Applying

Due to the large volume of resumes we receive as a result of this posting, we can only respond to those resumes that meet our criteria. We apologize for the lack of personal communication but we will give your resume the attention it deserves.

In order to apply, we require the following:

  2. A cover letter (a personal email is fine!) expressing your interest, desire to travel, and details about your skills and talents you believe we will find important. RESUMES SENT WITHOUT A COVER LETTER WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
